Ballarat in Autumn

I posted a while back about some trees we planted at home and thought it was time I gave an update of sorts. People often complain that Ballarat is too cold but the chilly weather does have at least one redeeming feature; it results in the most spectacular display come autumn time each year. I really can't stress too much how fantastic Ballarat is this time of year. The weather is at its most stable with brilliantly fresh & clear mornings and the deciduous trees in the numerous mid-city leafy streets are on full display. These photos were taken in our front garden and in our street.

My wife and I planted a few trees at home this weekend. We've had the plane trees for a while now in pots but the crab apple was a special order. She was so excited when it arrived. It's great to be able to get so much pleasure from simple things like planting some trees at home. It really helps to make the place feel really like a home. We have a huge liquid amber in the back yard and a great date palm in the front, as well as a mop top ribinia that we planted a few months ago, so given time we should end up with a pretty good display.
